What were YOU doing on 9/11 ?

Wow! Can you even believe that it is 9/11 ?

I was sitting in my 2nd grade classroom when I learned about the horrific events of the day. It was before the kids got there and all of us teachers were in the library around the TV. It was awful. The bell rang and we had to go back to class and pretend that everything was fine in order to not scare the kids. It was a nauseating day. We had a TV in the lunch room where I remember watching the towers fall. By the end of the day I think I had maybe 8 of my 24 kids left in my classroom. I remember about 3 days of pure mourning with the nation. I, along with Jake, were glued to the TV watching the planes hit and towers fall over and over and over again!

What were YOU doing when you found out? Please make comments!

I was working in downtown Houston. I was watching it on the company's Cisco IP TV and it was surreal. After the second plane crashed into the building. They released everyone to go home, because they didn't know if the major downtowns were being hit or what. It was crazy. Since I took the metro downtown I had to ride with someone who could take people home. It's something that I hope we or our kids have to deal with again.

I was heading to Fine Arts class with Dr. Rieghard. My friend walked up to me and told me what happened. We walked into the building and sat on the floor to watch the plane hit the second tower...WOW! That was a long day...classes were cancelled and nobody really knew what to do. Heartbreaking to think back on that day!

I was just leaving my World History class at SNU and was going to the library to study before chapel, and there were tons of people gathered around a TV that was pulled out in the middle of the library. It was just when the first tower was collapsing, and it took a solid 5 minutes of watching to realize what was happening. It took a lot longer, of course, for the reality to set in, but it was definitely a moment of shock, grief, and fear. Something I pray never happens again.

I was in the middle of drawing a bath for Amber just about to light the candles. Just Kidding. I was on my way to work when I heard Ron Williams on KYIS 98.9 annouce the first plane. If you haven't seen United 93 (the movie), you must. Every American should watch this movie once a year. If you dont' you are on their side and will be considered a terrorist in my book.

I was almost to work and had just turned on to Research Pkwy. I was listening to KLOVE when they broke programming to bring the news bulletin that it was believed a plane had crashed into one of the towers of the WTC. There was so much confusion and despair in the air that day. We didn't have a TV in our office, so I remember trying to pull up numerous news websites to find out what was going on, but they were all being slammed so hard with everyone trying to access them that it just kept timing out. Then, I remembered a "new" site that I had discovered just a few days/weeks before called www.drudgereport.com and it was from that website that I saw the first pictures of the WTC towers burning.

I certainly would never wish the horror of that day on anyone EVER again, but what I do wish is that we could somehow experience once again the sense of unity, friendship, and patriotism that seemed to permeate the nation days, weeks, and months after 9/11.
